What was the inspiration for your business?
Munk Pack was inspired by a need in our own lives for healthy, portable snacks. We love being a part of the healthy natural food movement, and we are inspired daily by the response we get from our consumers and friends. It’s definitely motivating to see and hear how people are enjoying Munk Pack and how our brand is a part of others’ lives now, too.
What do you want people to know about Munk Pack?
From our corporate lives to our camping adventures, we were always looking for portable, healthy, great-tasting foods. We were tired of bars. We wanted real food that was minimally processed, without the sugars, syrups, and fillers you find in most bars and snacks. We got started in the kitchen, funneling homemade oatmeals and smoothies into bottles. Then we discovered the convenience of pouches, which allow you to keep foods non-perishable without the use of artificial preservatives. Turns out, the spouted pouch is not just for kids’ snacks or applesauces – adults love it, too! As we’ve expanded, we've maintained our hands-on approach to sourcing ingredients. Taste and quality are always our priority.
What inspired the name 'Munk Pack'?
Our brand centers on the tiny but mighty chipmunk, whose adventurous spirit and healthy diet is our inspiration. Chipmunks are curious creatures that love a good adventure, always exploring everything on their path. They are highly selective eaters, with a diet of fruits, nuts, seeds, and grains. Like the chipmunk, we gather only high-quality, real ingredients from nature for balanced nutrition on the go!
Why should people try Munk Pack?
Everyone should try Munk Pack! It makes a quick and healthy breakfast while hiking, biking, commuting, or even at your desk. It's easy on the go, and is geared to adult nutrition with ground flaxseed and superfoods. It's the first ready-to-eat oatmeal and is unique among pouch products with the textures of grains, fruit, and coconut shreds.
What trends are you seeing in natural foods?
We think that portability is an overarching trend; at the same time people don’t want to sacrifice nutritional value, taste, or real and natural ingredients. People are increasingly looking for alternatives to energy bars that often contain unhealthy fillers and syrups. We also believe more people are looking for products that allow them to live a plant-based diet.
Do you have a favorite way or place to enjoy your Munk Pack products?
Whether we are on a weekend hike or morning commute, we always have a few pouches of Munk Pack in the trunk of our car, so it’s great anytime we’re in a bind for real food.
What’s a guilty pleasure of yours?
We like to slip a hike into our itinerary during business travel, watch a mindless TV show occasionally, and treat ourselves to a little panna cotta for dessert.
What’s a fun fact about the Glienkes?
Michelle was a nationally ranked junior tennis champ in high school, and Tobias was an aspiring soccer star. Not quite World Cup material, but he has great German soccer genes.
