A single ingredient is all you need for some natural facial masks. Honey, for example, has natural antiseptic properties known to help regenerate damaged skin tissues, and it’s great for toning, tightening and hydrating. Other masks gain their benefits by mixing together a variety of fresh ingredients.
AVOCADO: Rich in natural oil, protein and vitamins A and B, avocado makes a nourishing mask. Mash the fruit and spread it on your face.
BANANAS: Crushed or sliced, these are excellent for dry or sensitive skin.
CORNMEAL: Aiding in the exfoliation of dead skin cells, cornmeal also helps absorb excess skin oils.
EGGS: Rich in protein, eggs make a good skin conditioner. Egg yolks are rich in lecithin, a natural emollient found in hair and skin. Egg whites are naturally astringent and can help tighten your pores.
FRESH STRAWBERRIES: These contain salicylic acid, a common ingredient in deep cleansers. Salicylic acid kills bacteria, helps rid the skin of dead cells and allows it to absorb moisture more efficiently. Strawberries also have a mild bleaching effect on skin and can help heal blemishes.
RAW, WHITE POTATO: Rich in vitamin C, it soothes and heals dry, flaky skin. Be sure to remove the peel first because it can discolor your skin.
OATMEAL: Rich in protein, potassium, iron, phosphates, magnesium and silicon, oatmeal nourishes the skin and is a good ingredient in masks for all skin types.
PLAIN YOGURT: Containing skin-softening qualities, yogurt is also high in protein, calcium and vitamins.
SOUR CREAM: This contains lactic acid to deep-clean your face and milk fat to help moisturize your skin.
TOMATO JUICE: Mildly acidic, tomato juice helps rid skin of excess oils that can cause breakouts.
