Senna (the leaf or fruit of the plant Senna alexandrina Mill.) is most prominently regarded as a herbal laxative. However, a recent study has shown that senna may have more health benefits, including the ability to arm the body against certain diseases.
A recent 2023 study published in the Journal of Herbal Medicine looked at senna’s potential to boost immunity, and in turn, help protect against diseases including COVID-19. The study consisted of a literature review of the plant’s benefits, as well as a statistical analysis and quality assessment of the retrieved data.

The research yielded promising results: senna contains a range of immunity-supporting antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and laxatives that demonstrate strong potential to be effective in helping to prevent COVID-19 and other diseases. It may also be beneficial for skin issues, such as acne and eczema.
Senna is most often taken as a chewable tablet, dissolvable strip, or in liquid form. It can also be purchased as a caffeine-free herbal tea.
